Teachers from the Past

They, the Ones Before Us
Knew the Ancient Ways
And though they are now gone
We spend most of our days

Trying to recapture
A bit of what They knew;
And in our frantic efforts
We both try, me and you

To find what is important
The Meaning of our lives
And at this simple task
Everyone still strives:

To make sense of living
And our purpose on Earth
To find our sacred mission
To know what is our Worth

But don't think there's no Answer;
There Is and always Was
And each person has
A course for what he does

We have to take a look
Back into our past
To find the ancient Teachers
Who got it, and at last

We'll find One much like us
Struggling with something
That to our modern ears
Has a familiar ring

And from this ancient Teacher
We'll learn to live today
And we will lead our lives
In a much Greater Way
