Cats and Reiki

Diane Stein, one of the most controversial authors in Reiki for writing her book Essential Reiki, which includes in it the variants of the sacred symbols that she learned (traditionally never published and only passed from master to student), proposed something pretty radical in her book.

It was something that I read several years ago, so forgive me if I get some of the details wrong. But she is under the impression, and I remember this distinctly, that "Cats invented Reiki."

Thousands of years ago, she asserts, before humans had the language to do so, cats were the first species who unlocked the secret to allowing Universal Energy to flow through them and help others.

Nonsense, right? Utter poppycock. Absurd... totally, right?

But have you ever observed a cat spending time with its person when that person is sick?

Have you ever been the sick person, and had a cat who wouldn't leave your side until you were well?

Have you ever been down about something, and your cat seemed to uniquely know?

I've also experienced this with dogs.

I think cats and dogs are both creatures that are uniquely wise to energy, and somehow, they share their connection to the Divine with us when they perceive we need it. -- In peace, Wolf

I don't know about Diane Stein, Wolf. I had her book at one time and simply could not get through it. Maybe I ought to try again. She may have been the ground breaker for disclosing the Reiki symbols, but many others have followed suit. As far as animals go with Reiki, I totally feel that they have a connection. Their connection is probably stronger than ours because they're not messing with their minds ( or so we think, anyway). Yes, I think animals are quite attuned to the energies. Remember the tsunami? The animals knew to leave. What about the helper dogs who are able to "read" an owners aura or some aspect of their energy and warn them of an oncoming seizure? We had a dog years ago who was so attuned to people's energies that he would only allow people he felt comfortable with to be near us. If he didn't like them he would impose his body beween the family member and the "offensive" person.
He wouldn't be growling, but his hackles would be up and he'd shift his body with the person. Sometimes we understood; sometimes we didn't, but we generally trusted his instincts. Recently I read an animal speak type of book. (I don't remember the name of the author or the book.) :( But it sure gave me a lot to think about and gave me a whole new sense of animal psyche. It helped my deal with the loss of my kitty last year. I feel we're still in touch. (This all sounds so familiar I wonder if I'm repeating myself here!? If I am, too bad, I guess, because here it comes again!) As far as "inventing" Reiki, well I doubt that, but discover Reiki? That's a whole other thing. (Well, I think anyway.)

Peace to you, Wolf (try #2)

How about cats "realizing" Reiki instead of "discovering?"

Nope, "realizing" isn't the right word either. How about cats just instinctively channeling Reiki?
